Painting A Picture Of Gentleness

In 1 Peter 3:4 & 5, we see that it is a gentle and quiet spirit that God finds precious and Peter goes on to tell us that we can find examples of this in the holy women of God and how they adorned themselves with this. So let’s take a look at some of these examples that God has saved for us in the Bible.

First and foremost is Sarah. Peter states that as we follow her example we are her daughters. Her story can be found in Genesis chapters 11-23. She left her home and family to go God knows where with her husband. We never hear of her complaining about it. Twice she let her husband talk her into doing to protect him even though she knew it was wrong, yet God protected her both times. When God changed her name from Sari – Princess to Sarah – My Princess, how special was that. To be called God’s Princess, set her as the example for all of us to follow after.

Next, let’s look at Rahab the prostitute at Jericho. In Joshua chapter 2-6. her story unfolds. We see how she heard of what God was doing for the Children of Israel and came to a saving faith in God.  It was her faith  which saved her and her family by acting on the instructions of the Hebrew spies. This faith brought her into the lineage of Jesus and the Hall of Faith in Hebrews 11.

Rahab leads us into Ruth. Rahab was the mother of Boaz. Boaz was attracted to Ruth because of her kindness to Naomi. He also saw that she was a virtuous woman which lead to him being willing to be her kinsman redeemer bringing her into the lineage of Jesus.

There are a lot more women in the Old and New Testaments that have many more women we can add to this canvas. Who is your favorite woman from the Bible?
