My Alarm Clock

Don’t let those sweet innocent faces fool you when they decide it is time to get up there is no hitting the snooze button. Brooks, the one with the brown patch over his eye, will whine and eventually start pushing you off the bed with his head. While Gertie Mae does the hitting, she will hit with her paw til you acknowledge that you are awake. There is no turning over with her to grab a few more minutes of sleep with her because she will start hitting again until you are out of bed. The problem is now that it is getting light earlier they are wanting up earlier and this morning it was half an hour earlier. Once up, fed, they do their thing outback, which includes chasing squirrels, rabbits and birds out of the yard, they come in and sleep the rest of the day. Just doesn’t seem fair.

Then today’s Proverbs just hit home.

Go to the ant, O sluggard;
    consider her ways, and be wise.
Without having any chief,
    officer, or ruler,
she prepares her bread in summer
    and gathers her food in harvest.
How long will you lie there, O sluggard?
    When will you arise from your sleep?

Proverbs 6:6-9

I had already thought about getting up earlier, then last night my oldest son was out late and I couldn’t sleep til he got home. So as much as I whined and complained to the dogs about getting up earlier than I wanted to, I have to admit that it felt good to get moving and get things done.

So tomorrow is Saturday and my husband is home. Usually, I complain to myself because once he is up there is no sleeping. Even if he decides to let me sleep, he’ll pop back into the bedroom once the coffee is done with a cup for me. Time to be like an ant and get work done.
