So many times when I look at the life of Moses’ I can see myself. This is true about what is going on in Deuteronomy 3:24.
When I first looked at it I thought what a lovely praise to God. What we see here is just a small fraction of His mighty works.
” ‘O Lord GOD, You have begun to show Your servant Your greatness and Your mighty hand, for what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do anything like Your works and Your mighty deeds?”
Then I started looking at the whole picture, verse 23 and the verses after it. That is when I saw it for what it really is. So let’s put this all into perspective. God had told Moses that because he hit the rock and didn’t speak to it like God had commanded, he was not going to enter into the Promise Land. Now that they are on the edge of the Promise Land, we see that Moses is trying to butter up God and let him cross over to the promise.
I love the Lord GOD’s response in verse 26. He tells Moses that enough is enough. To stop whining like a 2-year-old. God actually put Moses in a time out. Told him where to go so he could get a glimpse of the Promise Land but also Moses had to have been thinking about what he did to get the Lord GOD so upset with him that he wouldn’t be able to go into the Promise Land that he led the people to and were ready to enter.
How many times have I heard God say something and then tried to butter Him up to get my way? Like Moses every time it never works. Whether you are 120+ or 2 discipline is never fun and trying to get out of it never works.
Has God said something to you that you are trying to get out of? Are we trying to butter GOD up or truly giving Him praise?
