In The Shadow Of…

I think this picture is a great representation of Psalms 91:1-2;

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
    will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
 I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
    my God, in whom I trust.”

As we look at the picture we mainly see the castle perched high upon the hillside. Like our God the Most High. Overlooking the village below. Our God lives on high watching over us.

The Hebrew word for dwells is yashab, which also means inhabitants, to inhabit, occupants, and to take a seat. The word for shelter is sether, and it means a covering, hiding place, or secrecy.

Now look back at the picture the village is hidden in the valley by the trees. It will be in the shadow of the castle.

The Hebrew word lin does mean dwell but it also means to stay over night. It is night when it is dark and dangerous to travel a weary traveler would find shelter inside the walls of the castle  over night. The soilders as they kept their watch could see if any invaders were coming froming being high on the hillside. While the word tsel means shadow, the root word tsalal not only means shadow it also means protection and shelter.

If there was an invasion the people of the village were able to enter into the gates of the castle and once all were in that gate was closed.  The people were safe and protected within the mighty fortress.

How much more are we able to run into the shelter of the Almighty – Shaddai, protected for the attack of the enemy.
