As we close up the study of the Names of God, these are not the least of names and the list that we have looked at is not all the names.
In Exodus 15:26, we first see the name Jehovah-Rapha used. It means Lord, your healer. God is the Great Physician, not only does he heal physically but also emotionally. Many Christians are leery of holistic medicine today. Yes, there are some out there that you need to watch out for, yet when you have done your research there are those that can be trusted. Since, holistic means to treat as a whole, and you look at how healing was done in the Old and New Testaments, you see that God treats the whole person. Let’s first take a look at Exodus 15:25b-26, where Jehovah-Rapha is first used.
There the Lord made for them a statute and a rule, and there he tested them, saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer.”
We see for healing that we need to listen to God and keep His commandments. Jesus simplified all the commandments in to just two in Matthew 22:37-40;
And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.
In Isaiah 38, is the story of King Hezekiah, who almost died from a boil. Once he dealt with his bitterness, the boil was then treated with fig.
In the New Testament, many times you see Jesus telling those that He has healed, their faith has made them whole. Showing that healing is not like modern medicine divided into parts but when God heals He heals the whole preson; spirit,mind, and body.
