One of my favorite songs growing up was “I’m Leaving On A Jet Plane” by Peter, Paul, and Mary. My favorite part of the song was, “‘Cause I’m leavin’ on a jet plane, Don’t know when I’ll be back again.” It was the sense of freedom that got to me. I wouldn’t have to go to school just travel all over the world. Yes, in second grade the feeling of being out of school and not being stuck sitting on the hard chairs intrigued me.
Jesus has just told the disciples He was leaving going back to be with His Father. He had told them earlier in John 14:3, that He was going to prepare a place for them in His Father’s house. This time in chapter 16 verse 28, Jesus made it clear that He wasn’t taking a jet plane, but leaving this world.
When Jesus was talking to His disciples earlier we find more information in Mark 13: 26 & 32, of when He will return.
Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory…But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
He will be coming with power just no one knows when. Many have guessed and failed. He did say that we need to be ready and waiting because it can be anytime that He returns.
It’s happened again! I’m just finishing a post on travel memories. 😊
