Who Are You Listening To?

You have heard the old saying, “Garbage in. Garbage out.” I think this past election is a good example. It was so negative on both sides. A couple question; did that negativity get to you? Were you getting worked up over it? Did it bring you down? Did your faith waiver?

There are things that will tear down our faith like; the news, gossip, negative people, negative self-talk, and the list goes on. So how do we build our faith? Paul told the Romans in chapter 10 verse 11, in the NKJV;

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Now check it out in The Message,

The point is: Before you trust, you have to listen. But unless Christ’s Word is preached, there’s nothing to listen to.

This doesn’t mean we have to listen to preach 24/7. There are several ways we can hear the Word of God to help build up our faith.

First, there is always listening to sermons. My mom teased my pastor growing up that she was going to get tapes of his teaching so my brother would go to sleep at night. Listening to teachings on long road trips help pass the time.

Then there is listening to worship music. Since many of the songs are based on Bible verses it is one way to hear the Word of God. It also helps to get chores done faster.

When you do your Bible study, read the verses out loud. There is also recordings of the Bible being read in case you don’t like the sound of your voice.

In Philippians 4:8, Paul tells us what we need to focus on,

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

These are the things that build up our faith in God when they are centered around His Word and not on what the is going on in the world which is a faith killer.

  1. I have been surfing online more than three hours as of
    late, yet I never discovered any interesting article like yours.
    It’s pretty worth sufficient for me. In my view, if
    all site owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the
    web can be much more useful than ever before.
