No matter how relaxing a cup of chamomile tea is it can’t bring true contentment. Neither can a big piece of chocolate cake. Whatever is your go-to comfort food, only brings a temporary comfort and contentment, leaving you wanting more or something else. Nothing we eat or drink can bring true contentment.
True contentment comes in right standing with God. Check out Romans 14:17;
For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Righteousness is right standing with God. Paul, in Philippians 3:7-9, explains that nothing that he once thought was gain here on earth is really worth it.
But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—
Paul realized that knowing Jesus was true contentment. He knew that his own righteousness was like filthy rags before God. He was perfect as Jew in keeping the Law. Yet his own works never brought satisfaction to him that only came through his faith in Christ and the righteousness, right standing, God provide through the work Jesus di on the cross.
Loved this!!! What a great word of encouragement!

There’s nothing like the peace and comfort of being in the Lord’s presence! Coffee and chocolate doesn’t hurt either 😉

We just read this recently in family Bible reading time. It’s a great passage and I loved reading your thoughts on it. You are so right…contentment does not come from the chocolate cake. In fact, I think that breeds even more discontentment when it takes on new life as body weight.

Adorable title for a post! Not to mention a great reminder where (or should I say who) TRUE contentment comes from. Thanks for sharing!

I love this! You are so right. Contentment only really comes from God. I must admit that when I’m stressed or tired I tend to still go for the chocolate instead of God. Ah forgive my weakness God. ha ha ha ha ha
Thanks for this beautiful post
