The Light Within

As you look around this world lately it is a very dark place and seems to be getting darker. Even those that participate in lawlessness are wearing black clothing and mask. The darkness comes from one being who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy. He has blinded them to the truth of the gospel. No wonder those that are in the world walk in such darkness.

The good news is God said back in Genesis 1, “Let there be light,” and the light shone and God said, “It was good.” God has placed in us His Light to light up this dark world. Paul in 2 Corinthians 4, calls us jars of clay. A lump of clay can’t just decide one day that it wants to be a useful jar and poof it is a jar. A lump of clay just sits like a bump on a log, until the potter puts it on his wheel and applies pressure does the lump begin to take shape.

In Isaiah 64:8, we see that God is the Potter and we are the clay. God told Jeremiah to go to the potter’s house in chapter 18 and in verses 3 and 4 he describes what he saw,

So I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was working at his wheel. And the vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter’s hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to do.

God has made us each a unique with our own way to let His Light shine in the darkness. However, in the process, He has to apply pressure to make us into the useful jar of clay He wants us to be. Sometimes there may be a rock or some other blemish that He has to take out and start all over to make us His masterpiece. These times most likely are not the best of times for us as we go through them. Even when He gets us to the shape that He wants us we still have to go through the fire in the kiln to harden us for use. Once on the other side of the fire, the water from the waves of the storms of this world can’t soften us or cause us not to be used for what He made us for.

You may feel that your light is little and not amount to much. God uses us all together to bring light to this dark and dying world. We are not the “Lone Ranger” because we are connected as one big family and with thousands of points of light each reaching people that the other ones can’t reach the Light of Jesus spreads. So, let your light from within shine bright.

  1. I love this! It really did resonate with me, because I worked for a company that makes pottery by hand. I basically made pottery for 8 hours for 3 years. It was a fun job and had many spiritual lessons. We had to stretch the clay and roll it, even stamp designs in it, which required a little hammer. Great metaphor. Thanks for your post!
