Will Not Be Moved

When you go to the ocean, stand at the edge of the sand and water, as the waves come in you can feel the sand wash away from your feet. Should you stand there long enough it gets difficult with all the sand washing out until you have to readjust your position. However, if you are standing on a rock and the waves come, even if they are strong you will not be moved because you are on something solid.

The same goes with our spiritual and emotional life. We must build them on the foundation of the gospel Jesus laid with His death and resurrection in order that we will not be moved. We were never promised as Christians we would go through life walking without a single problem. Just the opposite, Jesus told us in John 16:33;

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.

We all remember this verse when we go through trials. “Woe to me, Jesus promised trials. OK, it can stop now that I have a trial.” BUT we fail to “take heart,” we stay in the mode of being a victim. This world is out to get us because we are a Christian. They are mean and hurtful. We walk around like Eeyore hanging our heads in self-pity and wanting others to feel sorry for us. I’ve been there.

Don’t know how many times I have tried to excuse myself in reasoning to myself with, “Yeah, but they…” I would take to heart what I saw and felt, the sand rushing out from under my feet. The hurt and suffering would keep me from taking to heart that JESUS has overcome the world.

When we look at Psalm 55, we see David going through a hard time with people around him. We see his hurt and suffering laid out. Then we see him pouring out his heart to God. Then in verse 22, David comes to the same conclusion almost as to what Jesus said;

Cast your burden on the Lord,
    and he will sustain you;
he will never permit
    the righteous to be moved.

It is when we take our burdens, hurts, pain, suffering… to the Lord we will not be moved because He has overcome the world.
