Many of us sat stunned yesterday afternoon and throughout the evening as details of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. We are all hurting for the students who the meaning of Valentine’s Day has changed forever. We are praying for those that are injured physically and the rest who are injured emotionally. We pray for comfort for those who have lost loved one, friends, and the football team whose coach was killed shielding the students.
Many will blame God in some way or another when in reality He had nothing to do with it. Take a look at Jeremiah 7:8-10; and compare it with what is going on, not just in America but the World also.
Behold, you trust in deceptive words to no avail. Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, make offerings to Baal, and go after other gods that you have not known, and then come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, ‘We are delivered!’—only to go on doing all these abominations?
Like King Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 1:9, “There is nothing new under the Sun.” Thousands of years ago if you were to pick up the newspaper the headlines would look a lot like today’s headlines. The same abominations that were happening in the days of Jeremiah are happening today.
As you read on in Jeremiah 7, you will see that God is angry too when these things happen. So if He is angry over it how can He cause it to happen? Do you do things that make you angry to get pleasure? No. Then don’t blame God for that. The blame goes solely on the enemy who in John 10:10, Jesus tells us his main purpose, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. ”
God sees our pain and feels it too. He doesn’t leave us to hurt with no hope. In Psalm 147:3, David declares;
He heals the brokenhearted
and binds up their wounds.
What is your broken valentine? Bring it to God for healing.
