Jeremiah lays out in the first few verses what God is not:
A piece of wood, carved into an image, covered in gold or silver, and fastened into place by hammer and nails to protect it from falling.
These idols are like scarecrows, they do not have a brain. Which means they do not speak or walk. Neither can they do good or evil. They can’t hurt us.
One day these idols will perish for they are made from things of this earth that can be destroyed by fire, damaged by a fall and tarnish by oxidization.
We do have idols today; cars, clothes, money, house, furnishings, Facebook, Twitter, video games… Anything that takes our focus off of God and demands our time is an idol.
WHO IS GOD?
He is the all-powerful Creator of heaven and earth, which He spoke into existence. In His wisdom and understanding, He created them. His voice controls the weather. He made everything that is on earth which includes the trees, gold, and silver.
God is the One deserving of our worship and praise. He is the One we need to fear and obey Him. The religious leaders try to trap Jesus and thought they had the one question to do it by asking Him what is the greatest commandment. In Matthew 22:37 NLT, Jesus answer silenced them;
Jesus replied, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’
Do you love God with all that is in you or is there something you are keeping from Him?
