For many Jeremiah 29:11, brings a comfort just knowing that God has plans for their lives.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
But when you look at the verses before God tells them to make a life living in Babylon as exiles have kids and grandkids while they are there for seventy years. They are to have nothing to do with the prophets that lied to them which caused them to be there in captivity. After the seventy years, God will bring them back to Jerusalem.
We have our plans as to how we think things should go and should anything upset those plans then we tend to get bent out of shape. How can God allow this to happen? I thought this is what God wanted me to do. WHY???
Back in 1987, I had made plans to drive across country to meet a friend and then the two of us would go together for the rest of the trip. I was not afraid of driving by myself, looking really forward to the trip. God tried to step in and stop me from going with a broken water temperature gauge so I had an aftermarket one put in. An hour away from home I swerved to miss a piece of tire. The vehicle buck then flipped end over end. When I had thought it stopped, it then rolled to the left. I ended up with three inches of bone missing from my left ankle, a broken left knee, and a broken right hand.
I had not heeded His warning. Did what I wanted to do. Ended up in the land of exile. Sure it wasn’t for seventy years. A year and a half can seem like a long time if you let it get to you. However, When you do as He says and put down our roots in the situation you are in He can work in us to change our thoughts and heart to do what His plan is.
We may not understand His plans when they seem as He is against. That is far from the truth. If when we are going through hard times and draw near to Him we will see that His plans for the trial will bring about good for us. This is the hope we have in Him.

This is one of my favorites. It is the verse I use for my ministry. God has always worked things out for me even in the hard times. Sometimes we don’t understand when things don’t work out but He sees a bigger picture. There are others involved in His plans for all of our lives. I’m all about making plans but I no longer make those contingency plans to escape an uncomfortable situation. He has always taken care of that when I’m obedient.
