A Journey of Hope

It is a new year. Maybe you are hoping that this will be the year you lose weight, get a better job, you can retire …  Who are you putting your hope in Obi-Wan Kenobi, the government or Jesus?

No matter who the person is, they will let you down since they can’t live up to your expectations. When Luke Skywalker released the holographic message to Obi-Wan that Princess Leia hid in R2-D2, she had put all of her hope in him. Luke found him living in a cave in the middle of nowhere. Hoping that he had found some great Jedi master Luke is somewhat dismayed when Obi-Wan tells him to trust the Force that is within him. In the end, Obi-Wan dies while Leia and Luke live to fight the same enemy another day.

Our hope dies when we don’t see our expectations being met and we fall into the void of hopelessness. We lose faith and trust in man because they have let us down and start to build a wall by taking things into our own hands.

Having just gone through the book of Jeremiah last year we read one of the most quoted verses on hope, Jeremiah 29:11 ESV,

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

It is God’s plan to give us hope. As we go on this Journey of Hope, we’ll start with a look at Psalms as we see what King David says about hope.

Monday — When does a journey in hope begin? Psalm 71:5

Tuesday — How long does it last? Psalm 71:14

Wednesday — What covers us as we hope? Psalm 33:22

Thursday — God is our what? In what do we hope in? Psalm 119:114

Friday — What are we? Who do we hope in? Psalm 146:5

Saturday — What does it mean to have the eye of the Lord on you? What are we to put our hope in? Psalm 33:18

Sunday — Sum up what you got out of these verses. Memorize your favorite one.

Next week we will continue our journey in Psalm on hope.
